Natural Remedies to Get Rid of Dandruff

Something that people experience on a daily basis and might be one of the most uncomfortable things is dandruff. Not only does it not look good to look over your shoulder and see a cascade of white flakes but it’s also one of the most painful and awkward feelings having to scratch your scalp constantly.  However, don’t throw away your dark clothes just yet, because the great news is that there is something that you can do to get rid of this problem, and more importantly it is natural.

What causes dandruff?

Before going into what you can do to get rid of your dandruff, let’s look at the most common causes of it. Changes in the weather or environment, dry skin, reaction to a certain hair product or skin conditions are some of the reason for dandruff. However, it’s not something that is rare, since it’s believed that about 50% of people have it once in their life. With that being said, instead of immediately jumping into and purchasing some anti-dandruff product, it might be best to first look into some natural remedies that can help you get rid of it once and for all.

How do you get rid of dandruff naturally?

Apple Cider Vinegar

One ingredient that a lot of people tend to use not just for dandruff is apple cider vinegar. Although it might not be right to use it for everything, apple cider vinegar can actually help you fight the bacteria that causes dandruff and get rid of it. By applying this you’re actually not allowing the yeast and dandruff fungi to grow which eliminates the problem completely. One way in which you can apply this is by mixing apple cider vinegar with water and rinsing your hair with it, or you can put the mixture in an empty spray bottle and apply it all over your hair like that. Instead of washing it immediately try to keep it on your hair for a couple of minutes and massage it into the scalp. Repeat this for a few days until you start to see results.

Baking Soda

Another thing that is great for treating dandruff is baking soda. The function of baking soda is to reduce the fungi that cause dandruff. By exfoliating the scalp without being too strong to irritate it, it soothes it and reduces the itching and dandruff altogether. What you can do is wet your hair and just rub a handful of baking soda onto your scalp. After you’ve done this, massage your scalp for a couple of minutes and rinse your hair with warm water. The important thing is that you shouldn’t apply shampoo after you’ve done this. Repeat this process twice a week until you see results.

Tea Tree Oil

Another product that can easily be found is tea tree oil. This essential oil can really make a difference if you use it regularly and properly. What this oil does is reduce the inflammation and help treat infection, or in this case, help battle fungus and yeast. There is something about this oil that it’s a sure way to help you get rid of dandruff. You can apply this in two ways. You can either add a couple of drops of tea tree oil to your normal shampoo and just wash your hair as you normally do, or you can just apply it directly to your scalp. If you prefer the second route then part your hair, apply a couple of drops and repeat the process until the entire scalp has been covered. After that is all done, massage your scalp for a couple of minutes and let it sit before rinsing it off with warm water.

Drink a lot of water

Often the most common cause of dandruff is dry scalp, which is a result of the low intake of water in our system. Just like the rest of our body, the more water you drink the better you’ll feel and the healthier you’ll be. That is exactly the case with this issue. Since dandruff can occur when the skin is overly dry, then the best thing to do is to stay hydrated. If you’re one of those people that just forgets to drink water, then bringing a small bottle of water everywhere you go can be just what you need.

Although dandruff might be a very common problem that can happen to a lot of people or that has happened to most once, in their lifetime, there are several natural remedies that can help you eliminate this issue completely. Since everything is 100% natural, there is no danger of any irritation. So, before you go and buy some expensive product that promises to get rid of your dandruff in no time, why not give these tips a try.
